Overview:
- With 5% of the world suffering from amblyopia leading to vision loss or vision impairment, World Renowned Children’s Hospital sought to develop novel technology to treat amblyopia in children before it leads to permanent damage. The Children’s Hospital worked with Protyo to optimize critical features that enable the treatment of children’s eyes through Virtual Reality.
The challenge:
- Research has shown that if amplyopia is treated in children at an early age then long term vision impairment and vision loss can be avoided, but treatment compliance has long been one of the most challenging aspects of treatments for children. World Renowned Children’s Hospital developed a novel approach for treating amblyopia in children through Virtual Reality while they watch their favorite television shows, but ran into technical challenges developing their eye tracking capabilities, machine learning models, and integrating into a virtual reality system.
The solution:
- Protyo joined core engineering teams to help expedite crucial projects by contributing to the development of the eye tracking system, advancing the ML models that dynamically modify the content viewed in VR, and integrating it into the VR headset.
